Manchester City fans and Liverpool fans have quickly entered a bitter rivalry that used to be reserved for Manchester United and one Liverpool fan even made it into the Spurs end to mock City fans on Tuesday.

Pressure when it comes down to the gritty end of the season can do funny things to people. On Tuesday night it seemed to effect Pep Guardiola with the Manchester City manager picking Riyad Mahrez to start, whilst Kevin de Bruyne sat on the bench.

The move certainly didn’t work with Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs’ side winning 1-0 and taking a lead to the Etihad when the two sides face in the second leg next week.

However the decision to play Mahrez from the start wasn’t the oddest sight at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as that actually come in the home end.

One City fan posted a video on Twitter of a Liverpool fan in the home end happily showing off that her team had been European champions on five occasions, whilst City have never been champions of the continent:

On the same night the Liverpool fan could have been at Anfield watching her own club as they faced Porto in the same competition, winning 2-0.

It was a night of VAR at both grounds with City being on the end of a couple of controversial decisions, as they won a penalty off Danny Rose’s handball and later saw Fernandinho elbow Harry Kane without recourse.

At Anfield the home side were the ones on the right side of the video officials as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s handball wasn’t deemed an offence and Mo Salah’s red card challenge wasn’t even reviewed.

The results make it more likely that Liverpool will qualify for the next round, though City remain favourites against Spurs, and it could have an impact on the title race.

City currently sit two points behind their title rivals in the race to be crowned champions but have a game in hand over them. There is just six games till the end of the season.

The pressure already has people doing silly things, what will happen when it ramps up in the last few games of the season?
