Aston Villa have completed the signing of Trezeguet from Turkish side Kasimpasa. The 24-year-old moves to Villa Park for an undisclosed fee, subject to a work visa and international clearance.
Trezeguet began his career with Al Ahly in Egypt before signing for Anderlecht. He then enjoyed a loan stint with Mouscron in Belgium before a switch to Turkey.
Trezeguet, a common feature of the Egypt national side, has just returned from the African Nations Cup where he made four appearances, scoring once.
The 24-year-old midfielder has one familiar face at Villa Park; Egyptian team-mate Elmohamady is a regular feature under Dean Smith.
As a result of Emohamady’s influence, Trezeguet said it was an easy decision to join the Villans.
“Ahmed is a good friend of mine. He’s like my brother, who I’ve played in the national team with for five years.” he said.
“He’s my captain and always speaks with me about Aston Villa, saying it’s an amazing club and that I’d be happy here.
“I asked him a lot of questions. He will help me and believes I will help the team.
“It will help having him here with me and I look forward to working with him again.
“As for joining, I’m happy to be here at one of the biggest clubs around. I hope I can help the team to be successful – I will do my best.
“I’m looking forward to playing in the Premier League – it’s a dream.”
Meanwhile, Dean Smith spoke of his delight at signing the Egyptian national.
“We’re really excited to work with ‘Trez’. I’ve watched him a number of times.” he added.
“He’s the type of wide player that we have been looking for who is direct, causes problems for the opposition in the final third and scores goals.”
