Barcelona Make Approach For Virgil Van Dijk But Get Shut Down
Take a deep breath, Liverpool fans. Virgil van Dijk will NOT be leaving Anfield anytime soon.
Following a stellar season under Jurgen Klopp, where he picked up the PFA Player of the Year award, Barcelona have decided to make an audacious enquiry over a potential move.
Van Dijk’s representatives quickly told the Catalan giants to forget about signing him, according to The Mirror, as the 28-year-old is fully committed to the club for the foreseeable future.
The fact that no player in the Champions League or Premier League dribbled past Virgil Van Dijk last season says it all, really.
His form under Jurgen Klopp was crucial and to put his rock-like performances into perspective, FootyNews fans have voted him the best defender in world football.
In a Twitter poll 65% of fans said that Van Dijk was indeed the best defender. That’s pretty conclusive, right?
In his final game against Spurs in the Champions League final, the defender was named Man of the Match.
But he deflected his own outing by singling out Jurgen Klopp for special praise:
“In the second half we were sitting back a bit and they put pressure on us, but overall I think we’re deserved Champions League winners,” Liverpool‘s No.4 said.
“[Klopp] is a fantastic manager and a fantastic human being. It’s an amazing environment to be in and I’m really proud to play for this beautiful club.
“We’re all ambitious and we all want to have these kinds of nights so let’s go for it – work hard and stay humble. I expect a lot from the party today and tomorrow!”
Is he the best defender in world football right now?
