Beckham And Class Of 92 Legends Confirmed For Rematch Of 99 UCL Final
“AND SOLSKJAER HAS WON IT!”
The event is on the 26 May – exactly 20 years till the day since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scored that famous last minute winner to secure the treble – a standalone feat in English football – at the Nou Camp in Barcelona.
Solskjaer could well be permanent United manager by the time he pulls on the shirt again, while the United line-up is seriously shaping up as the club have confirmed that David Beckham and Class of ’92 members Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and Gary and Phil Neville will be playing.
Swedish winger Jesper Blomqvist, Denis Irwin, Jaap Stam and Peter Schmeichel, arguably the club’s greatest ever goalkeeper, will be back in United colours.
Commenting in his return in an interview with United’s official website, Beckham said: “I’m so excited to be going back to Old Trafford in May.
‘”1999 was such a massive year for us so recreating that moment is going to be really special.
“To be back together as a squad and to be managed by the boss again is huge. Huge for us and for the fans; I can’t wait.”
After recovering from life-saving surgery to tackle a brain hemorrhage back in May, legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson will return to the Old Trafford dug-out for the ‘Treble Reunion game’, which will raise funds for the Manchester United foundation.
“I’m really looking forward to what will be a special day at Old Trafford,” Ferguson said.
“It will be great to catch up with some familiar faces and a great opportunity to support the work of Manchester United Foundation.”
Tickets for the game are on sale now and it promises to quite the reunion…
