Bellator 215 Main Event Ends No Contest After Brutal Kick To The Balls -

The heavyweight headliner between Matt Mitrione and Sergei Kharitonov at Bellator 215 was over before it had even got going but there was no early knockout or rapid submission victory.

Instead, fans were left disappointed as just 15 seconds in, Mitrione went for a low kick to start off proceedings but mistimed it and ended up catching Kharitonov square in the balls.

The low blow was so deadly that he instantly dropped to the deck and despite having a cup for protection, the pain proved too much and Kharitonov was unable to recover – with the fight subsequently abandoned.

Lads who have had been pelted in the nuts will be well aware of the agony Kharitonov was in. Mitrione, who has had five fights in UFC, gestured straight away after his accidental kick the ghoulies as he knew what he’d done.

The 40-year old showed his class after the fight though, issuing an apology and expressing his interest in having the most immediate rematch possible – as well as offering to slug it out in a fresh fight on Bellator 216 next week.

“What shame, I hope everyone understands it was an accident, he said, as per Metro.

“[Kharitonov] you’re a legend. I can’t believe that happened, I feel absolutely horrible.

“As soon as you’re better, if you want to, I’m obviously 100 per cent down to run it back and lets give the fans the show they wanted.

“To everybody else, I told Scott Coker I would fight tomorrow to try and make up for it, there’s a card on Saturday night. ‘Anybody who falls ill, or if they can find a heavyweight, then we’re going to try [to fight] if possible.

“I’m sorry. I hope you guys were looking forward to the fight as much as I was. And to Sergei, I’m sorry dude.’
