Easy Jet Plane Takes Off During Gibraltar Against Ireland Game
In terms of location, Gibraltar’s International Airport is literally a stones throw away from the famous Victoria Stadium; a venue like no other in world football.
With a capacity of just 2,000, this magnificent arena is a favourite for plane spotting enthusiasts everywhere.
In fact many watching at home decided to concentrate on an Easy Jet Airbus take off rather than watch Gibraltar host the Republic Of Ireland in this distinctly average European Championship qualifier.
Well, you don’t see this on a typical Saturday afternoon very often.
Back in March last year, Gibraltar picked up their first win as a FIFA nation.
The smallest nation recognised by UEFA experienced a major change of fortune when they recorded the memorable 1-0 victory over Latvia.
It was not only Gibraltar’s second ever win as a UEFA nation, it was their first as a FIFA Nation, their first success on home soil – and their first win for FOUR years.
A late free-kick from Notts County Liam Walker in the 88th minute sees them climb off the bottom FIFA ranking (206) and ended a four-year wait for a win – their last triumph coming against Malta in 2014.
The 30,000 strong nation lost 23 games and conceded 117 goals before this moment.
Is this one of the most unique stadiums in world football? Surely.
