• Studs appear to catch in turf during tackle
• World Cup place at risk for 23-year-old Costa Rican

Costa Rica’s Bryan Oviedo may be forced to miss the World Cup after suffering what looked to be a broken let ankle in Everton’s fourth round FA Cup tie against Stevenage.

Oviedo, who would almost certainly have lined up for his country in the World Cup match against England in Belo Horizonte on 24 June suffered the injury when his studs appeared to catch in the turf at the Lamex Stadium as he slid in to a challenge in the 16th minute. A rainstorm an hour before kick-off had softened the ground.

His team-mates immediately signalled for medical assistance and the 23-year-old midfielder was carried off.

Despite his age, Oviedo has already made 26 appearances for his country.
