Cristiano Ronaldo has been known to belt out the Champions League song like it’s his national anthem on those special nights in Europe, but instead of singing ahead of Wednesday’s quarter-final tie against Ajax, he gave this mascot a moment he will never forget.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who averages 10.2 goals a season in the competition, scored his 125th Champions League goal at the Johan Cruyff Arena last night, adding to his incredible record of 24 goals in 21 games at the quarter-final stage.

A typically powerful Ronaldo header in the box was later cancelled out by Ajax wonderkid David Neres, who scored a great goal early on in the second half, but it was the 34-year-old who once again grabbed the headlines for a moment ahead of kick-off.

As the two teams stood beside each other during the Champions League anthem, Leonardo Bonucci’s mascot turned around to see Cristiano Ronaldo himself standing behind him. Starstruck, the youngster continued to stare at the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, like a kid on Christmas Day.

Ronaldo then looked straight at the mascot, who had to double take when he realised his idol was gazing back at him.

It was a moment this little lad will never forget.

Ronaldo has scored a truly ridiculous amount of goals in the latter stages of the competition. In fact, he has 41 goals in Champions League quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals, blowing his fellow players out of the water by a country mile.

Not only has he bagged three goals in Champions League finals, more than any other player in history, but his record compared to his great rival Lionel Messi is something else. The Juventus forward has 24 goals in 21 games in quarter finals and 14 goals in semi-finals.

If you total all of his and Messi’s goals, Ronaldo has 25 more goals than the Barcelona forward. Incredible.

He has also scored far more than some legends of the game, including Raul, Filippo Inzaghi and Andriy Shevchenko. Also, the fact that he has more than twice as many career Champions League knockout stage goals (64) than Ajax does as a club (31) is just mind blowing, to be honest.
