Fans Are Outraged At The Price Tag Of Newcastle's New Home Shirt
Outraged Newcastle United fans will have to dig deep into their pockets to buy the club’s new home shirt.
The Magpies unveiled the striped black-and-white shirt, developed by Puma, and have slapped a £65 price on it.
And the latest shirt is being charged a penny more than the Newcastle supporters paid for last season’s top.
Fans have flooded social media with their frustration towards the club.
“The most expensive and probably the worst,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
Another Newcastle faithful said: “Definitely not buying it this year.”
“Most expensive in the Premier League for a club who [have] battled relegation since returning to the top flight just two year[s] ago. And none of the supporters seem to even like the new kit,” a fan angrily tweeted.
A fourth added: “I can tell you one [Newcastle] fan that won’t be buying one…”
The shirt pays tribute to the Magpies’ Inter-Cities Fairs Cup winners of 1969 as part of their 50th anniversary.
And if fans were angry about the shirt price, they will have to splash out even more for the whole kit.
The shorts, socks and shirt will set any Newcastle faithful back £116 this summer.
Fans have voiced their disappointment over the management of the club and the growing uncertainty over Rafa Benítez’s future.
But former Newcastle captain Mick Martin believes that the Spaniard, 59, won’t be tempted by the offer to manage in China.
“I’m not sure that this is the right time for Rafa to manage so far from his home in the Wirral. He is settled in the UK with his family,” the 67-year-old Irishman told the Chronicle Live.
“And it can’t just be about money for him at 59, as he has managed for many years and is not concerned about finances.
“I also think it would be a massive gamble for Mike Ashley to start the season without Benítez — especially for an extra £10million or £15million.
“I hope the pair can resolve things soon.
“Even if Mike did sell the club, Benítez would be in place for the new owner and they would have a world-class boss.
“Mike surely won’t want any hassle. It just does not seem worth it.”
