French side Paris Saint-Germain have spoken with the agent of Kalidou Koulibaly about a summer transfer, according to reports.
Koulibaly was a target for Manchester United last summer as they aimed to improve their defence.
A transfer never materialised, and the Red Devils are now close to signing Raphael Varane from Real Madrid.
Koulibaly still appears to be keen to leave Napoli. He’s been at the club since joining from Genk in July 2014.
He’s been heavily linked with Everton following the arrival of new manager Rafa Benitez.
Koulibaly and Benitez are thought to have a good relationship after the Spaniard managed Napoli between 2013 and 2015.
But it looks like PSG have made the first approach for 30-year-old Koulibaly.
Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport (via Daily Mail) states that PSG director Leonardo Araujo has held talks with Koulibaly’s agent, Fali Ramadani.
The discussions began informally at the start of the week and continue to progress in the right direction.
Koulibaly is thought to be available for around £35million. That represents a marked decrease on the huge fees that were being thrown around last summer.
Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti recently confirmed the decision to put Koulibaly up for transfer, albeit against his best wishes.
Spalletti said:”Koulibaly is on the market, but I’d like him to stay, I would chain myself somewhere to keep him.
“I have never worked with anyone so good, not just as a player, but also as a man.”
Signing Koulibaly would continue PSG’s impressive, and busy, summer transfer window.
They’ve perfected the free transfer as Gigi Donnarumma, Sergio Ramos and Gini Wijnaldum have all arrived without a fee.
Wing-back Achraf Hakimi was also signed from Italian champions Inter Milan for £60.9m.
However, just days after signing, Hakimi’s agent sparked controversy by revealing his client’s desire to return to boyhood side Real Madrid some day.
The agent said: “We keep the excitement and the hope and the dream that Achraf returns to Real Madrid.
“He was born in Madrid, he grew up in Madrid and some day, he would like to play at Real Madrid.”
PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino is aiming to win his first Champions League title as a manager.
The French outfit reached the last four in 2020/21 but were knocked out by Manchester City.
Adding Koulibaly to their ranks would increase their chances of going all the way.
