Everton eye Christophe Galtier as potential Carlo Ancelotti replacement

Everton are interested in making former Lille boss Christophe Galtier their new manager and have already begun talks with his representatives.

The Toffees are looking for a replacement for Carlo Ancelotti, who rejoined Real Madrid recently. Ancelotti is the latest in a long line of Everton managers that have failed to get the club into the top six, with the Merseysiders eventually finishing tenth last season below newly promoted Leeds United.

Since Ancelotti’s departure they have been linked with a host of candidates including Nuno Espirito Santo, Eddie Howe and sensationally, Liverpool favourites Steven Gerrard and Rafa Benitez. Despite all the speculation they are no closer to naming a successor.

The latest name to be mentioned is ex-Lille manager and Ligue 1 winner Galtier. According to BeFoot, Everton are strongly interested with discussions between the club and his representatives already underway. However, Galtier already has an agreement in place to take over at Nice.

Although nothing has been signed yet, the two parties reached an understanding some time ago with the Ligue 1 club looking to announce his arrival within the next few weeks.

This has not deterred Everton from making their move. The Toffees have a lot going for them as well. Thanks to the Premier League’s economic might they would be able to offer higher wages alongside increased spending power in the transfer market.

Everton are not the only admirers of Galtier. He has earned plenty of fans in recent months after successfully leading Lille to an unlikely Ligue 1 title. Paris Saint-Germain’s wage budget eclipses the rest of the French top flight, yet Les Dogues still managed to edge them out by one point.

Since then the squad has begun to be dismantled. As well as Galtier’s imminent departure, Boubakary Soumare is expected to join Leicester City, while goalkeeper Mike Maignan has signed for Milan. Sven Botman, Jonathan David and Jonathan Ikone could also leave this summer.
