Hannibal Mejbri signs long-term Manchester United contract

Manchester United youngster Hannibal Mejbri has signed a new long-term contract with the club.

Hannibal signed from Monaco in the summer of 2019 and has developed well at Old Trafford, delivering a number of impressive performances for the Under-18s despite only turning 18 in January.

He captured plenty of attention when he finished off a wonderful team goal against Blackburn Rovers earlier in the season and there are high hopes for his future.

He will be spending the foreseeable future in Manchester as the club confirmed on Monday that he has put pen to paper on a new long-term contract.

A club statement reads: “Manchester United is delighted to announce that Hannibal has signed a new long-term contract with the club.

“The midfielder, who has been regularly praised for his attitude, has played above his age group and represented the Under-23s throughout the season.”

Born in Paris, the midfielder is viewed as one of the most exciting prospects in French youth football. If and when the time comes for his senior debut, United can expect an explosive attacking presence.

He’s so impressive going forward, in fact, that Under-23 boss Neil Wood recently expressed concern over how often he gets fouled.

Earlier this season, Wood said: “I think Hannibal has lots of quality and the frustrating point for him is that there must be about 15 fouls on him per game. At some point if it’s not stopped, or if the referee is not protecting him, he’s going to get his leg broken. That’s what I fear for him.”

Hannibal has made 14 appearances in PL2 this season, scoring three times and registering five assists as United sit fifth in the division. There has been no word yet on when a senior debut could come, but a new long-term contract in any case represents a significant step forward in the youngster’s burgeoning career.
