Germany Women's Team Release Brilliant Video Ahead Of World Cup - FootyNews.co.uk

The Germany Women’s team have kicked off a summer of Women’s football by releasing a brilliant video about the struggles they go through as being unknown in their own country.

We’ve still got the FA Cup final, play off finals and two European finals to go but the football season is very nearly over for another year.

Of course there’s the Nations League to come as well but it’s a bit weird having an international tournament that will last just one week, even if it is the England men’s team’s best chance of winning silverware.

And mentioning that it’s the men’s best chance of finally winning a trophy, for the first time since the Tournoi in 1997 (yes I’m counting it!), is important because this summer the Women’s World Cup is taking place.

Phil Neville’s team are one of the favourites having finished third at the last edition, four years ago in Canada, when they were minutes away from making the final.

In the third and fourth place play offs the Lionesses played against Germany, in a 1-0 win, and the German’s will be hoping to become World champions for the fourth time having won the tournament in 2003 and 2007.

Ahead of this summer’s tournament the Germany squad released a brilliant video about facing being unknown in their country and fighting prejudice:

Speaking about her squad at the announcement manager Martina Voss-Tecklenburg said, “We had intense discussions and there were some tough decisions in the end, because we have a high-quality team.”

The announcement for England’s team also caught the attention on social media as each player was announced by a different celebrity with David Beckham, Raheem Sterling and Alex Scott amongst those who announced players.

The tournament kicks off on June 7th with hosts France playing South Korea in the opening match. Germany open their group against China on the 8th and Neville’s team face Scotland on the 9th.
