Inter Milan Preparing Stunning U-Turn On Mauro Icardi
Mauro Icardi is going nowhere despite being stripped of the Inter Milan captaincy, and refusing to travel with the club for their Europa League fixture.
In fact, Icardi is set to be handed a new Inter deal.
The prolific Argentine striker was dramatically stripped of the Inter captaincy and subsequently refused to travel to Vienna, Austria, for a European game.
However, in a stunning turn of events, the Serie A outfit will table Icardi a new deal according to calciomercato.
Despite the high tension between Icardi and Inter, the board will offer him a new five-year contract.
His current deal expires in 2021 though his new contract will see him tied down to the club till 2024.
The 26-year-old is set to earn €7 million (£6 million) a year with bonuses.
The fallen European giants are also looking to eradicate his current release clause worth a reported €110 million (£96 million).
Icardi’s agent, who is also his wife, Wanda Nara, has proposed a release clause of around €140 million (£122 million).
“In football you can never say never to business with Juventus,” he said.
“However, in this specific case there’s no chance that Icardi will go to Juventus.
“We’re negotiating a renewal with Inter, but our philosophy is that the group is always greater than the individual.
“Our market campaign next summer will be better than the last one.”
Inter chief executive Giuseppe Marotta also weighed in on Icardi’s situation at Inter.
“We’re not going to sell Icardi. We believe he’s a great player who’s done well for Inter and who will do well in the future.”
