Leicester City paid £20 million for the services of James Maddison in the summer window but it could turn it to be a bargain for the Foxes.

The former Norwich City and Coventry City man has five goals and five assists in the league this season, which isn’t too shabby to say he’s been playing under a relatively pragmatic manager in Claude Puel.

More impressive, however, is the fact that no other player in the league has created more chances than Maddison this season.

In his first campaign in the top flight, the 22-year old has set up a total of 74 goalscoring opportunities – 39 from set pieces and a further 35 from open play. Granted, not all of these haven’t been turned into goals but it highlights Maddison’s ability to create.

Chelsea‘s talisman Eden Hazard (68) and Bournemouth winger Ryan Fraser (62) complete the top three.

While Maddison needs to improve his consistency, he has all the ability to be a very, very good No.10 and the arrival of Brendan Rodgers, with his attacking style of play, promises to benefit him hugely.

England have been crying out for a playmaker type for quite some time now and he could be the answer. He was called up to Gareth Southgate’s squad for games against Spain and Croatia in October but didn’t end up on taking to the pitch.

However, a strong series of performances for his club will mean it surely won’t be long before he’s regularly playing on the international stage.
