The wonderful world of Non-League football strikes again…

In Saturday’s National League North game between Curzon Ashton and Alfreton Town, the linesman pulled with an injury in the first half and with no fourth official able to step in, there was a thorough search to find a suitable replacement.

The game, which the visitors were leading 1-0, was actually in danger of being called off prematurely with a stoppage of over 20 minutes. But what followed was peak Non-League.

Pam Leaning, Alfreton Town’s kit-lady, saved the day by taking the flag and running the line for the rest of Curzon’s 3-2 win at the Tameside Stadium.

With the patterned flag in hand and the full attire on, Pam jogged over to the other side of the pitch and the game was back under way.

‘Super Pam’ really did come to the rescue. Her voluntary act of stepping up from managing the kits to doing the ins, outs and offside calls led to a crazy game where Curzon came from 2-0 down at half-time to win 3-2.

Pam, we well and truly salute you for your heroics.
