Manchester United were left with red faces on Sunday after they were hit by a 4-0 loss to Everton in the Premier League, denting their Champions League hopes, and after the match there was a heated exchange between players.

Since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 there have been quite a lot of low points for Manchester United, that have even managed to mask the highs of winning trophies, but on Sunday they probably hit their lowest point.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team were on the end of an embarrassing 4-0 hammering by Everton, in a score that if anything flattered United.

The loss put a massive dent in their hopes of beating Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs in the race to finish in third and fourth and qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Rightly there was a lot of criticism of United players from all angles, not least from Gary Neville, with very few getting away from the stark reality of the poor performance.

According to the Daily Mail things were so bad after full time that the ‘raised voices’ in the away dressing room could be heard in the corridor in Goodison Park as the players ‘turned on each other.’

The paper reports that after Solskjaer kept them in the changing room for more than half an hour there was another meeting at the Carrington training facility on Monday.

That second meeting lasted an hour with the players also having to sit through video analysis of the game, which couldn’t have been fun considering how poor they genuinely were.

Solskjaer apparently ended the meeting saying, “It’s a big week ahead – show me what you can do,” with United set to face rivals City on Wednesday and Chelsea on Sunday.

Even the chef reportedly had a pop at the players, hopefully whilst still wheelding a big meat cleaver just for added effect.

Speaking on Sky Sports Paul Pogba said, “We let the manager speak, the staff speak and they spoke the truth.

“We didn’t respect ourselves, the club or the fans. What we did on the pitch is not respectful for the team-mates, for the staff, for the people, for the kit man, for everyone. For their work, they put their life on us.

However Pogba would likely be chief amongst those who fans criticise and who people would worry about destabilising Solskjaer’s time as United manager, with some inside the club fearing that unless there’s an overhaul of the squad that’s exactly what will happen.

Whatever you read into all the goings on there’s no doubt that things aren’t great at Old Trafford right now.
