Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has picked up where he left at Manchester United as a cult hero and fans might love him even more after he does something Jose Mourinho couldn’t do in two and a half years at Old Trafford.

Let’s not rewrite history too much. The job Jose Mourinho did at Manchester United wasn’t all that bad. He won a League Cup and Europa League with the Red Devils, and the Community Shield, and got them into a second place finish in the Premier League.

Sure over the years fans of the Old Trafford club have become accustomed to more success than that but compared to every other United boss since Sir Alex Ferguson it was a success.

Even the football was better than under David Moyes and Louis van Gaal for the most part, by the end though results and performances and the constant wars with players was enough to get rid of the former Real Madrid boss.

Things have quickly turned around under interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who won his first six games in charge of the club and has played exciting attacking football for the most part.

And Solskjaer, who was loved by the United faithful before he arrived as manager, is going to ingratiate himself with fans even more with the news that he’s set to leave the Lowry Hotel already. Speaking at his press conference yesterday the Norwegian said:

“I’ve found a place so I won’t be [in the Lowry] too long. I’ve been driving around a bit to find my bearings again. I’ve got mates here so I have been to see a few of them, so it’s not like I’m stuck in the hotel on my own.”

Mourinho stayed at the five star city centre hotel for the entirety of his tenure as manager in the north west, deciding against renting or buying a property.

It didn’t exactly suggest he was ready to be in Manchester for the long haul and left staff at the club puzzled at his choice.

Solskjaer is only expected to be managing the club until the end of the season so it would have been far more reasonable for him to pull Mourinho’s Alan Partridge act but he’s chosen to move out of the hotel.

The longer his successful run goes on the louder talk of him getting the job on a permanent basis will be.

Should the 13 times Premier League champions beat Brighton on Saturday then the 1999 Champions League winner will be the first boss at the club to win all their opening seven games.

Then it’ll be everyone to the hotel bar for a celebratory drink.
