One big feature of Manchester United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been the pace that the team have shown, unlike under Jose Mourinho, and now Romelu Lukaku has claimed he’s the quickest of all.

Probably the biggest difference between the Manchester United of old, under Sir Alex Ferguson, and the United that have played since the managerial legend retired in 2013 has been the difference in pace.

Under Fergie the team hit opposition on the break at searing pace. Peter Schmeichel was legendary at getting the ball out quickly as possible to the defence and soon the whole team were away.

Under David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and finally Jose Mourinho the team were far too often ponderous. Keeping the ball as much as ever before but not passing with any pace, penetration or purpose.

That has changed again under Solskjaer and the team’s counter attacks have been excellent, with the speed of Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial being a key component of the team’s resurgence.

However it’s not actually any of those players who as United’s fastest, or at least that’s according to Romelu Lukaku who’s claimed on the club’s Instagram that it’s actually him.

Lukaku was still being criticised at the beginning of Solskjaer’s reign and, along with Alexis Sanchez, was one of the last players to turn his form around at Old Trafford.

However in his last four games for the Premier League side he’s bagged six goals and it seems that his claims about being the club’s quickest player are true.

The stats provided by Opta, to the Daily Mail, show that the Belgian has had the two quickest sprints for United this season:

Solskjaer will be hoping that his fast running and free scoring striker will be available on the weekend when they take on Watford on Saturday, after he missed out on international duty due to an injury.

Pace is extremely important for United’s chances of finishing in the top four and that means Lukaku might be their most important player.
