Manchester City‘s Leroy Sane has been forced off with a suspected knee injury during the Community Shield against Liverpool.

The German winger limped down the tunnel after tweaking his knee in the 10th minute after a challenge from Trent Alexander-Arnold, with Pep Guardiola replacing him with Gabriel Jesus.

Reports in Germany even claimed that Sane wouldn’t play today in case he got injured amid a potential transfer to Bayern Munich.

The Bundesliga giants have publicly courted Sane all summer with Niko Kovac confident in striking a deal with the Premier League champions.

“Our leadership is very engaged in the situation there. I’m confident and assume that we will get him,” he said last week.

Pep Guardiola wants the 23-year-old to stay at City but insists the decision rests with the player.

“We want him to stay and there is an offer waiting to talk with his agents to extend his contract,” the Spaniard explained.

“He is a guy who I appreciate a lot. I like him a lot. I think he has an incredible gap to be better in terms of being connected in the game.

“I have said two or three times that we want him and we want him to stay.

“He has an offer, and we are waiting to talk with his agents to extend the contract, so it’s not in our hands.

“He has to decide. If he wants and there is an agreement, then it’s good. But if he wants to leave, he can do it. We will be sad – hopefully he stays.”
