Santiago Solari Calls Out Isco For Being Overweight
Santiago Solari is having all sorts of problems as manager of Real Madrid right now, and his future in charge of the team doesn’t look very long term at all, now he’s suggested Isco isn’t playing because he’s not in shape.
A week can be a long time in football and that is a sentiment that Santiago Solari will be able to get on board with better than pretty much anyone else.
The Real Madrid manager lost three times in his biggest week as manager of Los Blancos. First up he lost against Barcelona in the Copa del Rey on February 27th, he lost a second Clasico in days last Saturday and finally oversaw his side be embarrassed by Ajax in the Champions League just days ago.
It makes the contract he signed back in October, which doesn’t run out until 2021, look absolutely foolish, especially given Real’s penchant for sacking managers at the best of times.
There’s rumours that Solari might not be in charge for much longer, with Jose Mourinho reportedly ready to take over, and the Spaniard is at war with some of his own players.
Asked, via Marca, about Isco’s lack of playing time and reports the midfielder wouldn’t get on team bus recently, the manager said:
“Disciplinary issues are handled internally.
“To play, you have to be in the right physical shape first and then you have to maintain it.”
On one hand the former Malaga player will be delighted to find out that he’s not been left out of the side because of any disciplinary issues but it’ll probably be a bit blow to find out it’s because the manager thinks he’s not in shape.
The disciplinary issue happened ahead of the Ajax game when Isco found out he was dropped from the squad and refused to get on the team bus, instead driving himself to the game.
After the first Clasico loss last week, in the Copa del Rey semi final, reports said that Isco was one of six players that Florentino Perez has had enough with and will sell.
Previously he had worked his way ahead of Gareth Bale and into Zinedine Zidane’s plans but even the inevitable change of manager seemingly won’t help him now.
Despite that the 26 year old might still out last his manager at the Bernabeu.
