Sergio Aguero's Penalty Should Have Been Retaken
Jan Vertonghen and encroaching. Name a more iconic duo.
The Tottenham defender was guilty, again, for encroaching on a penalty. He was first onto the ball and managed to clear it away after Hugo Lloris prevented Sergio Aguero from scoring.
It’s not the first time he’s encroached into the area early.
Against Arsenal in the Premier League, Vertonghen ran inside the box before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had even taken the penalty, and then blocked his second chance after gaining an unfair advantage by encroaching.
Needless to say, Vertonghen’s encroaching antics sent social media into overdrive. Here’s some reaction from Twitter:
Aguero’s first-half penalty miss proved very costly as Spurs secured victory thanks to a 78th minute strike from Heung-min Son.
They’ll take a one-goal lead into the Champions League quarter-final second leg.
