Spurs Reportedly Agree A Deal For Sampdoria Star Joachim Andersen
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has put plans into motion when it comes to bolstering his squad options after reports suggest that the club have reached a deal with Sampdoria over Joachim Andersen.
According to Tuttosport, Spurs have made a move for the 22-year-old Danish centre-back and already agreed on a fee for the player.
The Italian newspaper claims that the Premier League side have put forward a fee of €25m, which has been agreed in principle.
Andersen arrived at Sampdoria in 2017 from Jong FC Twente and has made 25 appearances for the Serie A side.
It is not only clubs that have been impressed with his form, as Denmark manager Åge Hareide has called him up for the national team.
“We saw him play against Inter [Milan], and I think he did really well,” he said (via CalcioMercato).
“He also improved in playing the ball. Even in the Netherlands, he had grown a lot in that fundamental, starting with the defence.”
With the Tin Soldiers scheduled to face Kosovo in a friendly this month ahead of their Euro 2020 qualifier against Switzerland, Andersen is relishing at the prospect of playing for his national side.
“I was hoping for it, but mine is the role where in Denmark there is the greatest competition, and many good players,” he told TV2.DK.
“So, obviously, I am a little surprised, but I feel I did well and did well with Sampdoria, which is why I am glad the coach noticed me.
“Now things are going as they should, I can’t complain. I play the games I can and I’m really happy to get on the pitch so much and learn something in every match.
“I’m 100 per cent sure I’ve become a better and smarter player.
“I learned some things that I had never heard before, so obviously coming to Italy was just good for me, I came from the Dutch school, characterised by a lot of technique and now I’m in Italy, where I learned tactics from their old-school defenders. They were two great experiences for me.”
In the meantime, Pochettino will turn his attention to the draw for the Champions League quarter-finals on Friday.
