17,000 Iceland shoppers go wild for nostalgic 90s teatime staple with a twist

Supermarket giant Iceland has had shoppers clearing their freezers after it announced it’d be bringing one of the most nostalgic teatime products to stores – but with a twist.

Iceland has announced that it is selling a salt and pepper version of retro classic Potato Smiles, and the news has driven shoppers wild (that’s no exaggeration, either).

The product was shared on the NewFoodsUK Facebook page, where it quickly blew up and became an instant viral hit.

The post was captioned: “OMG New McCain Salt & Pepper Smiles at Iceland! Salt & Pepper fans will absolutely love these, they have just appeared online at Iceland.”

Since it was shared, the post has racked up more than 17,000 comments, with shoppers keen to get their hands on a £2 pack.

Responding, one person said: “Get that freezer cleared. I’m clearing out Iceland tomorrow!!”

“oooooo! These, pizza, garlic bread and Netflix date night,” suggested another.

A third excited shopper said: “might just start shopping at Iceland.”

“Can I have a plate full of these after my night shift,” begged somebody else.

The Iceland Salt and Pepper Smiles are available to buy online now, and cost £2 per 450g bag.
