Bruno Fernandes starting to believe poetic Cristiano Ronaldo mantra fuelling record-breaking form

Bruno Fernandes admits he is now starting to believe the poetic message Cristiano Ronaldo once told him.

On another record-breaking night for the returning Manchester United great, playmaker Fernandes also scored as Ronaldo smashed a 10th senior international hat-trick into the Luxembourg net.

It means the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has totted up 115 goals and counting for the national team.

Showing no sign of stopping, even at age 36, the former Real Madrid and Juventus superstar has broken record after record in tandem with his long-term rival Lionel Messi – who completed his own high-profile summer move to PSG.

Whatever your stance on those two all-time greats, Ronaldo is clear when it comes to goals for his country.

After watching the Portugal captain add another three to his breathtaking tally last night, Fernandes has revealed what Ronaldo previously told him about breaking such records.

Speaking to Brazilian outlet TNT Sports, he said: “[Ronaldo is always] the same. Hungry to break more.

“He once said something very interesting. He said it’s not he who follows those records, it’s the records that follow him – and I’m starting to think that’s true, because his ability to score goals is impressive, his ability to be in the right place is impressive.

“Say what you want. Easy goals, not easy goals. There are no easy goals. You have to be there, you have to feel it, you have to have the feeling of the goal. He’s in the right place and scores it. Even being in the right place, it’s hard to score.

“There are those who fail, he doesn’t fail.”
