A man has been arrested and a gun recovered after reports of a shooting in north Manchester tonight.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed they were called to reports of a ‘firearms discharge’ on Whiteway Street in Harpurhey at around 5.30pm.
A spokesperson said the ‘swift response’ of officers led to a male being arrested and a firearm recovered.
There are no reports of any injuries, police added.
Pictures shared with the M.E.N showed armed officers surrounding a vehicle at the corner of Moss Brook Road and Church Lane.
A wide cordon remains in place and large number of police on the scene.
There are eight police vehicles, including a specialist search unit and tactical aid units.

A GMP spokesperson said: “Shortly after 5.30pm this evening specialist armed officers responded to reports of a firearm discharge on Whiteway Street, Manchester.
“Officers are currently in attendance and a scene is in place. A firearm has been recovered at the scene. “
“A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences. He remains in custody for questioning.
“No injuries have been reported.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident.
