Tyson Fury announcement could come in ‘a couple of weeks’ after Deontay Wilder KO

Tyson Fury’s promoter Bob Arum has said the heavyweight superstar “will figure out” what will come next after his win over Deontay Wilder.

Fury rounded off his trilogy with the American in style on Saturday in Las Vegas, as he recovered from two knockdowns in round four to stop Wilder in the 11th.

The Gypsy King had already beaten Wilder in their second fight, while the first finished in a controversial draw, with many believing Fury had won the contest.

While Fury said he will be looking to take a long break after his most recent triumph, the booking machine never rests and there’s already speculation as to what move the WBC and The Ring world heavyweight champion will make next in his career.

Speaking to iFL TV, Arum said he had caught up with Fury since he’d returned home from Las Vegas, although said he hadn’t pushed him on any decision on what to do next.

“I haven’t talked to him about that, I called him and he had just been back in Manchester for a few hours and we had a nice conversation” said the veteran promoter.

“I have learned after an event like that you don’t talk to the fighter about what’s next for at least a couple of weeks. Let him relax, let him enjoy, then we will figure out what is best for him.”

Had Anthony Joshua beaten Oleksandr Usyk last month, then a showdown between the two Britons would have been an obvious next step.

But Usyk put on a clinic against AJ and won via unanimous decision. Both men are now set to prepare for a rematch early next year, which means Fury will not be facing either for the best part of a year at least.

With the book closed on the Wilder rivalry the most likely option at this stage may be Dillian Whyte, who is the WBC interim champion. However, after some colossal heavyweight tussles in recent years, it’s doubtful as to whether that encounter would get fans’ pulses racing.
