Robin van Persie has sent a message to Bruno Fernandes after the Manchester United sensation was named Player of the Year for a second time.

It’s only 16 months ago that Fernandes swapped his native Portugal for Old Trafford – arriving in a £49.5million move from Sporting Lisbon.

The 26-year-old has repaid that transfer fee, though, some would argue multiple times over.

Indeed, the Portuguese playmaker has already made a stunning contribution to the United cause as he closes in on a first piece of team silverware, too, during the Europa League final against Villarreal.

Fernandes was handed the coveted Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award for a second time last night – ahead of the Premier League draw against already-relegated opponents Fulham.

His back-to-back success has not gone unnoticed by van Persie, either, as the ex-United and Netherlands frontman handed out some glowing praise on social media.

Posting on Twitter, van Persie said: “Well deserved, what a player. Instant impact since the day he joined!”

Having won the award himself during a debut season at Old Trafford – scoring 26 goals after a controversial switch from Arsenal – van Persie knows exactly what it takes to do what Fernandes has done.

With one Premier League game remaining before the European showpiece in Gdansk, the Portuguese has scored 18 goals and laid on 11 assists during United’s main charge.

His overall record for the club makes for even better reading, too, with 65 direct goal involvements coming from his 79 appearances in all competitions, as things stand.

But will he add to that on the final day or against Villarreal in Poland?
