The two brothers used to enjoy a very close relationship, and spent a lot of time in each other’s company. However, rumours of a growing rift between the siblings gained traction after Harry admitted that he and his brother were on “different paths” in an interview with ITV’s Tom Brady during his trip to South Africa in 2019. The Duke of Sussex then told Oprah Winfrey during the explosive CBS interview that his relations with William had still not improved, saying there was “space” between them.
A friend told the Sunday Times that William has felt the absence of his brother since Megxit.
They said: “Once he got over the anger of how things happened, he was left with the absence of his brother.
“They shared everything about their lives, an office, a foundation, meetings together most days and there was a lot of fun along the way.
“He’ll miss it forever.”

Another source added: “It’s still raw. He’s very upset by what’s happened, though absolutely intent that he and Harry’s relationship will heal in time.”
The brothers’ relationship is said to have deteriorated after William urged his younger sibling to not rush his relationship with Meghan.
It is claimed that Harry took particular offence at William’s description of Meghan as “this girl”.

According to sources quoted in the book “Finding Freedom”, William told Harry: “Don’t feel you need to rush this.
“Take as much time as you need to get to know this girl.”
The book’s authors, Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, wrote that the Duke of Sussex heard a “tone of snobbishness” in the words “this girl”, that was “anathema to his approach to the world”.
