Valencia Defender Gabriel Paulista Two Foot Tackles His Own Manager
To celebrate their historic win over Barcelona in the Copa Del Rey final last night, defender Gabriel Paulista channeled his inner Roy Keane by two-footing…his actual manager.
Valencia picked up a shock win on Saturday night, with goals from Kevin Gameiro and Rodrigo putting them ahead at half-time.
And despite Lionel Messi finding the net in the 73rd minute, Marcelino Garcia Toral’s side hung in there to secure victory.
It was a memorable night for Marcelino, who experienced the good and the bad both during and after the full-time whistle.
I mean, he was on the end of a flying two-footed tackle, for goodness sake – give the guy a rest!
He may have been on the end of a crunching tackle from Paulista, but that didn’t stop Marcelino from being “the happiest man in the world” after the full-time whistle:
“I am the happiest man in the world at a professional level,” Marcelino told Teledeporte.
“This year we started badly, and (despite) that struggle, the players did not split.
“Look at today – with the help of everyone, they gave me the opportunity to win a title, and the affection with the fans is mutual.”
Valencia captain Dani Parejo, who has spent eight years at the club, also revealed his delight at the victory:
“It’s my happiest day as a Valencianista. I’m very happy, for me and my family.” he told TVE.
“I’ve been here for eight years and I’ve had a lot of bad times, but a club like this deserves a lot more joys like that.
“It’s amazing, the people, the welcome … we have to give thanks to the people, to my teammates, to the club and to all of us.”
To think, Marcelino was on the verge of being sacked in January and now he’s a Copa Del Rey winner.
