Vidal Is Closing In On His Eighth Domestic League Title In A Row
Arturo Vidal is on the verge of picking up his eighth domestic league title in a row.
That’s right, the 31-year-old midfielder has enjoyed a trophy-laden career with domestic honours from his last two teams — Juventus and Bayern Munich — but he could secure his first league title with current club Barcelona as they edge closer to capturing the La Liga crown.
The Chile international started his domestic title-winning streak back in 2012 with Juve, winning Serie A four times during his four-year stint at the Old Lady.
Following his departure to Bayern Munich, Vidal once again found success on the domestic front and won three titles with the Bundesliga club.
If Vidal moves to eight consecutive league titles in a row, then he would be two behind current record holder Ljubomir Fejsa.
The 30-year-old Serbian defensive midfielder won ten consecutive league titles with three teams — Partizan, Olympiacos and Benfica — in his playing career.
Of course, Vidal would also find himself one behind Zlatan Ibrahimović, who won three Serie A titles with Inter Milan, one La Liga title with Barcelona, another Serie A crown with AC Milan and four Ligue 1 titles with Paris Saint-Germain.
Barcelona will be turning their attention to the Champions League semi-finals after their weekend clash.
Ernesto Valverde’s men will host Liverpool at the Camp Nou for the first leg next Wednesday.
