What Lionel Messi Said To Fans Who Confronted Him At Airport
Lionel Messi was involved in an altercation with some fans at John Lennon Airport after the 4-0 humbling at the hands of Liverpool and it’s since emerged what the five-time Ballon d’Or winner told the supporters.
As per Mundo Deportivo, Messi felt the need to respond to the small section of supporters who insulted him – asking them “What’s your problem? What did I do wrong?”
Security guard Pepe Costa is then said to have take then Messi away from the argument, while the Argentine was applauded by another separate group of Blaugrana fans.
According to The Guardian, Messi was so hurt by the Champions League semi-final second leg defeat that he broke down in tears and was “inconsolable” in the dressing room.
To make matters worse, the 31-year old was forced to have a doping test straight after the game. Messi provided a sample but the process took so long that Barca left for the airport without him, making alternative travel arrangements to reunite him with the rest of the squad for the journey back.
His disappointment was clear in the mixed zone, where he was not in the mood for a chat after passing through the area much later than his teammates.
A big part of Messi’s frustration is the fact that at the start of the season, he stated his desire to mark his first season as captain by lifting the Champions League after four years of disappointment.
It means that after 10 games, 12 goals and three assists, Messi’s quest for a fifth Champions League goes on for another season.
