The footballing world is coming together to donate money to help fund a private search effort for missing footballer Emiliano Sala and pilot David Ibbotson.

Through fundraising platform Go Fund Me, players from around the world have been making contributions for the #NoDejenDeBuscar campaign, which translates to ‘do not stop searching’.

A long-list of footballers have already made considerable financial contributions to the rescue efforts.

French RB Leipzig defender Nordi Mukiele has donated €4,000, with Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, Argentina striker Gonzalo Higuain and Valencia midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia contributing €2,000.

Nantes manager Vahid Halilhodzic is also listed as a donor.

he fundraiser was started by Sport Cover – a sports management company founded by Sala’s agent Meissa N’Diaye – which gave a €20,000 donation.

It currently lists Michy Batshuayi, Benjamin Mendy and Wissam Ben Yedder – as well as others – as clients.

Guernsey Police began the rescue mission when the pair went missing on Monday after their plane disappeared over the English Channel.

They called-off the operation on Thursday. The French striker’s mother Mercedes has travelled to Guernsey yesterday to meet with N’Diaye to discuss plans regarding to the search.

Fellow Argentine Messi and other high-profile footballers promoted the #NoDejenDeBuscar hashtag on Twitter and Instagram.

“While there is possibility, even a shred of hope, we ask don’t stop searching,” Messi posted on his Instagram story. “All my strength and support to his family and friends.”

The list of donations from fellow footballers is growing by the hour.

Nantes players including Kalifa Coulibaly, Samuel Moutoussamy and Nicolas Pallois have already contributed. Former Manchester United defender Fabio – who plays for the Ligue 1 side – also donated.
