Public Challenged To Jump As High As Cristiano Ronaldo, With £1,000 Prize Up For Grabs - FootyNews.co.uk

F2 Freestylers hosted an incredible challenge to see if members of the public were able to jump as a high as Juventus and Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, with a prize of £1,000 up for grabs.

Five-time Ballon d’Or Ronaldo scored the 100th headed goal of his career in May and a key reason as to why he is so prolific in the air is the fact he has a leap like no other.

When he opened the scoring against his Wales side in the Euro 2016 semi-finals, Ronaldo was somehow able to get 80cm off the ground and boast a hang-time of 0.7 seconds to head home Raphael Guerrero’s cross.

Ronaldo jumped 2.65m (8ft 7in) in the air and prompted Chris Coleman to concede “You cannot defend against a jump of that height”.

Football freestyle duo Jeremy Lynch and Billy Wingrove took to the streets of London to see if anyone from the general public could match Ronaldo’s jump, with a Champions League ball hanging from 2.65 metres next to a large cardboard cut-out of the man himself.

Many tried and failed, including celebrity Mark Wright, – with some getting incredibly close before a tall Australian chap hit the jackpot. The bloke just missed in his first attempt and then swapped his casual shoes with a pair of trainers a total stranger was wearing so he could get an extra spring.

And it worked wonders as he hurled himself in the air before getting a connection with the ball, sparking some pretty incredible scenes in the street.

The bloke who borrowed the winner his trainers was given £250 by Billy and stated he would donate it to Action for AT, a charity which he has been an ambassador for in the last five years.

During biomechanic tests on the forward at the University of Chichester in 2011, with the whole thing documented in an in-depth video for Castrol Edge Rankings, it emerged that Ronaldo is able to jump higher than an average NBA player.

Able to generate 5G of G-force on take-off and helped by his a thigh circumference of 62cm, he can reach heights of 44 cm from a standing start and 78 cm when he has a run-up – 7cm more than the average basketballer.
