Eden Hazard had a cheeky dig at Tottenham Hotspur’s lack of silverware following the opening of the club’s new stadium.

Spurs played their first home game in their brand spanking new stadium on Wednesday, beating Crystal Palace 2-0 thanks to goals from Heung-Min Son and Christian Eriksen.

Though it’s taken an absolute age for the stadium to be ready for use, it’s an exciting time for Tottenham fans in their new home – which is comfortably the best in the Premier League.

And though Chelsea talisman Hazard welcomed the new state-of-the-art facility, he did sneak in a dig at Spurs when asked if Chelsea in danger of being left behind by their rivals.

“I think Tottenham for two or three years have been one of the best teams in England,” the Belgian said, as per Daily Mail.

“That is for sure. We are Chelsea, and it is a big derby. I don’t like that to be fair but we have to accept it.

“For the Premier League it is good – new stadium, they have top players. But at the end you know Chelsea we won a lot of trophies, they have not, so I hope this continues.”

Spurs’ new stadium has reportedly set the club back £1 billion but it looks every bit of the “world class sports and entertainment destination” description it has been given.

Two massive LED screens have been installed to add to the experience but the one thing that has Spurs supporters most excited is the 17,500 capacity single-tier stand – the biggest in the UK.

The atmosphere created in that Kop behind the goal against Palace already has the makings of being something very, very special.

It’s the definition of “modern stadia”, with another key feature being the world’s first ever retractable pitch, whereby one surface can slide out and allow for a different kind of football game to take place in the stadium.

Spurs have signed a 10-year partnership with the NFL and will host regular season games at the ground.
